The Grandeur of the Lincoln-Tallmann House with Tim Maahs
A Rock County icon, the Lincoln-Tallman House museum originally was the grand residence of the William Tallman family from 1857 to 1915.
Operating as a historic house museum since 1951, the Lincoln-Tallman House has evolved into a site that can offer a traditional museum experience while providing its spaces for everyday use by the community. It is owned and operated by the Rock County Historical Society.
Abraham Lincoln visited Janesville October 1–3, 1859, a year before he was elected president. He had come to Rock County from Milwaukee, where he had spoken at the Wisconsin State Fair. William Tallman convinced Lincoln to visit Janesville and stay at the Tallman house for the evening after a speech in Beloit.
Executive Director, Tim Maahs, will entertain us with a visual tour of the home and its connection with Lincoln and other historic events.
