So, stay tuned for its arrival.
From the first recorded murder in the area before Wisconsin was a state (1846) to some of the worst crimes of the 1970s, this book is a timeline of the seedier side of life in Sheboygan County.
This project began with a request from members and researchers when an article published in the Sheboygan Press on September 20, 1929 was found noting the rarity of first degree murder in the county. Just how many murders have there been? Who knows.
First degree murder charges get knocked down to second degree or maybe to manslaughter. First degree is misleading. Murders are murders no matter which legal designation is used or what you call them. And the legal wranglings skew the truth because of deals.
All the information contained here is from the public domain and reprinted or used with permission. This book is 267 pages of stories, news clippings, images, photos and timelines.
The main focus of the book is crime, it’s not all murder. But, murder is a topic that either fascinates or repulses people. This may not be a book for everyone. The gentle of spirit or the squeamish might want to make a different reading choice.
News writing has varied so much over the years. It has at times been brutally honest and overly descriptive. Please pay attention to the beauty of the written word. The descriptive qualities and hidden humor are great.
True crime buffs will love the detective work. There are a few yet to be solved.
The coverage ends in the 1970s as people involved may still live in the area. We wish to be respectful and cognizant of the aftereffects of crime.
Dark and Twisted it may be. Fascinating, it surely is.
