Join Stephen Kantrowitz for a presentation on “How the Ho-Chunk Thwarted Removal from Wisconsin.” The 2024 SCHRC Annual Meeting is honored to have noted Native American scholar Stephen Kantrowitz discuss how the Ho-Chunk nation avoided being forcibly removed from Wisconsin. It is part of his larger and comprehensive study of the Ho-Chunk in his book, Citizens of a Stolen Land.: A Ho-Chunk History of the Nineteenth-Century United States (2023). His other books include More Than Freedom: Fighting for Black Citizenship in a White Republic, 1829-1889 (2013), Ben Tillman and the Reconstruction of White Supremacy (2000), and All Men Free and Brethren: Essays on the History of African American Freemasonry (editor). Copies of his address will be available for purchase and signing. Dr. Kantrowitz ‘s lecture is the 4th in a series of lectures delivered at the SCHRC Annual Meeting.
