SUMMARY:What Happened to Lincoln’s Body
DESCRIPTION:In this first presentation, Steven Rogstad will share the crazy journey of Abraham Lincoln’s body.\nFollowing his assassination, President Abraham Lincoln’s body was embalmed for what would become the most elaborate funeral pageant in American history.\nTwelve public funerals were held for Lincoln’s remains as the body traveled over 1,700 miles to Springfield, Illinois, where it was placed in a public receiving vault almost a month after the murder. The body would be moved another 17 times between 1865 and 1901.\nAn attempt to steal the corpse was made a decade after his death. This is the unusual – almost unbelievable – story of what happened to Abraham Lincoln’s corpse.\n
